Literacy
Another fantastic week in the Foundation and Grade One space. Students are settled and focused during class time. Students are working well during spelling and literacy rotations, working in small groups to complete a variety of activities. We have introduced our new phonics program called Sounds-Write into our literacy block this week. This program is filled with high impact teaching strategies that align with current and evidence-based reading practices. Foundation and Grade One will have a different sequence and will be split accordingly.

Maths
Foundation
In maths, we have played different warm-up games to help with counting. Students have been sequencing numbers and recognising numbers by playing a simplified Bingo game which has been lots of fun! We have been learning to subitize by instantly recognising an amount shown. Students were first introduced to this concept by playing a dice game and are now using ten frames.
Grade One
In Grade One student’s have been practising skip counting in many different ways. The favourite game of the week was called ‘Snail Trail’. This was a great game that challenged students to skip count by the target pattern as quickly as possible in a certain time frame. Students were very excited to try and beat their score!
Inquiry
Students have continued to think about how living things change over time. Students were given a picture of different stages of life. Their challenge was to find somebody else in the class with the matching theme at a different stage of life. This was a great activity to get the students up and moving in the classroom, as well as being a great prompt for discussion.
RE (Religious Education)
Foundation and Grade One students have continued to learn about St Brigid. We were taken on a journey up to the office area by Miss Linda and learnt about the St Brigid artwork on the wall. Students learnt about the different symbols of St Brigid, the lamp of learning and all elements of nature, as these were what St Brigid stood for in her life. Students have been busy creating their own version of this artwork to put on display.
