Cyber Safety at COHR

Cybersafety at COHR in 2022

After very informative Cyber Safety webinars for our students and staff last week, it is now time to promote the Parent webinar.   We would strongly encourage ALL parents to not miss this extremely informative and up to date session on the latest in helping families navigate the online world and helping our students to stay safe when online.

****Families are asked to register as this will ensure the link is made available on the day

or if unable to attend the replay can be accessed at a later date.

Here is the link for your parents to register for the webinar:

Once parents register (with an email address and name), they will be emailed a link to the webinar. They will also receive a reminder email on the afternoon of the webinar as well as 15min before start time. The following day, they will receive a link to access the replay. Therefore we recommend even if parents are unable to attend the live webinar, they register to ensure they can access the replay.

Here is our presenters introducing themselves and telling us what's in store.

In our Library lessons this week for our 3\4 & 5\6 students, we briefly addressed some Social Media apps.  We discussed rules, laws and guidelines and compared these for online and offline.  Many Social Media apps require an age of 13+ to sign up, yet some of our students have these accounts but are not yet 13!?  We spoke about a known offline rule of how we wouldn't drive a car before we have a licence so why do we break the rule online of signing up to some of these apps?  These apps are not just about contacts but contentis of a major concern. The age limit is there for a reason and that is to "protect our kids!"

Marty (our presenter) will speak more about the safety issues connected to these apps.  In particular, as a staff, we are concerned about our students being on Tik Tok and Discord and would strongly advise for students who have these apps/accounts to delete them - it's all about being fair when online.
