YOUR PARENT CANDIDATES 2022

MICHAEL LEE

ABOUT ME

I am putting my name forward to be a parent member in the school council. This provides me with a platform to contribute as a parent working closely in partnership with the school and students to ensure we work together as one community in shaping the strategic direction of the school. I am new to the school environment as my daughter Michelle has just commenced her Year 10. My passion is to contribute and help the school community. Previously, I have been involved at Michelle’s previous school in a number of voluntary roles such as a class parent representative and participating in school camps as a helper. I have an Engineering (post-graduate) and Commerce qualification from Monash University and currently work in a corporate role as a safety leader which involves some strategic planning, policy development, stakeholder engagement, etc. which would be relevant to the role.

There is great potential for shaping the long-term direction of the school and provide a nurturing environment for students to pursue and develop their interest in science. If elected, it would be my privilege and honor to serve the school and contribute to the next chapter of excellence at John Monash Science School. Thank you for considering my nomination

NATALIE ISBORN

ABOUT ME

I am a graduate from Monash University, having completed a BA(Hons)/ LLB in 1996. I achieved honours in psychology as part of a BA, which was run by the science department at the time and helped develop my interest in all things scientific. I went on to have a career in law, working in Australia, and then for 11 years across England, Scotland and Sweden (qualified in all jurisdictions).

My children, Jesper (JMSS) and Lillie are 15 and Alexandra is 12 and they were all born in Sweden. While living abroad I earned an MBA at Warwick Business School (England) to further develop my business leadership skills. I have extensive experience in corporate governance and risk, financial analysis and strategy, having been the head of equity investments (M&A) until January this year.

I am a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and have been the chair and/or a director of more than ten companies in the financial services sector over the last five years. I have recently started my own business advisory company so that I can put my diverse skills to use across a range of businesses.  It is that unique skill set which I hope can be of use to JMSS.

I have previously been on a primary school council and sat on the policy committee. I enjoy being able to share my knowledge with others and have volunteered as a lawyer and as a mentor since I left high school. I believe it is important to listen and let everyone have an opportunity to be heard. I approach issues with integrity and patience while focusing on finding a solution

MARY HARRISON

ABOUT ME

I am a Medical Scientist currently employed at  Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.

My daughter is in Year 11 at JMSS and my son, Andrew, was JMSS School Captain in 2018.

I have a strong focus on their wellbeing, both in and out of school, and it is this passion that I wish to bring with me, along with the vigour and strong work ethic to contribute towards making a difference to the school community.

In the past, I have volunteered as a parent helper with the JMSS PFA - this has been a great way to meet other parents. Also, it is very satisfying to contribute to the success of the school and the students.

I would be delighted to be part of JMSS School Council, as I believe it will be a terrific opportunity to be a parent representative and work with the school management and staff towards a common goal – maintaining the fantastic environment that already exists and helping it grow.

TREVOR NATHAN

ABOUT ME

As a member of the JMSS School Council in 2021 I was very honoured to be able to contribute to a school that has done so much for science education in Australia.

My family was first alerted to JMSS by our daughter Ruby's own research when she was in year 5. She was attracted to a school that would encourage her love of science and nurture her enquiring mind. We were delighted to find that the school indeed does nurture the enthusiasm felt by that 10-year-old child.

I am the product of a selective government school (University High) and I feel that I would like to give something back to a system that has been so good to me and which is providing such a wonderful opportunity to my daughter.

My occupation is in management consulting with a particular focus on finance. From this role, I have experience in designing operating models for large organisations.

Prior to my current role I worked in banking for 25 years providing risk-management advise to top-tier corporations.

I'm married to Katie who works as a mediator and has taught me a lot about communicating with people, especially when there is a diversity of ideas.

We have two other children aged 19 and 14. As a parent of transgender and children on the autism spectrum, I have a deep understanding of the benefits to students, their families and the wider community that come from supporting diversity and inclusiveness.

I am also a keen runner and enjoy subjecting my family to bad puns.

I would welcome the opportunity to continue my contribution to JMSS in 2022
