From the Principal

Meagan Cook

I would like to wish you all a warm welcome back to the new year, especially those that are new to the Cranbourne East Secondary College Community. Despite the disruption caused by staff and students having to isolate we have continued to reconnect and re-establish positive routines and behaviours that will enable all students to be successful in their learning.

I continue to be very proud of the strong sense of community that our college has fostered and maintained, throughout the last 2 years and during a time of growth.  This year will see our student population exceed 1800 students. Our 6 new classrooms (of which only 2 have currently landed) will go a long way to ensuring that we have quality learning spaces for all students, but we are still very tight for space! This year we are working directly with the Victorian School Building Authority to construct a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA). This space, once completed, will be a welcome addition for the teaching and learning of physical education.

This year we welcome 2 new Assistant Principals to CESC.

  • Kylie Williams, Assistant Principal Teaching and Learning
  • Dina Mingos, Assistant Principal Teaching and Learning/Inclusion

They bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience and I am confident that each of they will have a positive impact on the future of our College.

This week we celebrated with some of our high achieving students from 2021. For the 6th year in a row, we achieved our best VCE results and cemented our place as a high performing school. Congratulations to all students and staff involved.

In summary CESC achieved,

  • A median study score of 32
  • Our highest ever percentage of 40+ scores, 9.4%
  • Our highest ever median study score of 75 and 39.2% of scores above 80
  • Our highest ever percentage of students with 90+ ATAR, 20%

These results saw us named as a school that is out-performing the (fee paying) independent and catholic sector within the Cranbourne area and I believe the key element that sets us apart, is the high expectations we  have that are  firmly entrenched in the culture of our school community. These expectations extend beyond agreed behaviours/uniform etc, and are ingrained in the learning that students are demonstrating in the classroom.

We are looking forward to our whole school athletics carnival in the coming weeks, if you haven’t already consented to your child attending, please log into Compass and do so. All students are expected to attend and there a range of activities to get involved in on the day.

Unfortunately, due to staffing challenges associated with COVID isolations we will not be able to welcome parents to this event. The event is for students and staff only.

I look forward to continuing into 2022 with high expectations that ensure we are giving every student every opportunity to exceed their potential, by providing high quality pathways.

I look forward to getting to know many more of you as the year progresses.

Stay healthy and well,

Meagan Cook
