Junior School Report

Welcome back

The Junior School team warmly welcomes all our staff, students and parents for a new year at Scoresby Secondary College. We hope that you all had a safe and restful Christmas break and are ready for another fantastic year of learning.

We would also like to welcome the newest members of our community – our Year 7 cohort.

Year 7 began Term 1 on Monday 31 January, and we have been very impressed at how well they have transitioned into secondary school. It has been fantastic to see students begin to develop new friendships, and become engaged in many of the learning opportunities offered at Scoresby Secondary College.

The alternative timetable that took place on the first day allowed our staff to get to know our new students, and also learn about what they are looking forward to the most in their first year at secondary school.

“I am looking forward to Year 7 camp because I get to go somewhere new, and try new activities with new friends.”

Joseph Humble

“I am looking forward to Food Technology because I enjoy cooking and baking.”

Tina Whitworth-Dodson

“I’m looking forward to the Athletics Day because I enjoy playing and watching sports.”  Nicholas Price

“I am looking forward to Design Technology and Materials because I like everything that involves tools, and getting my hands dirty in the process.”

Jt (Jesse) Tibaldo

Maximising your learning

The start of the year is a great opportunity to develop good habits both at home and school in order for our students to achieve their best. Here are some tips to consider which can be implemented at home that can support your child:

  • Assist your child in setting up a homework timetable.
  • Create a study space at home – This could be a common area where it allows students to both be independent, but also ensures that you are involved in their learning and can offer assistance when required.
  • Reinforce a growth mindset attitude at home – This could include encouraging your child to give all activities a go.

Key dates:

  • Year 7 Information Night (on- line): Tuesday 22 February
  • College Athletics Day: Tuesday 1 March
  • Year 7 Camp: Wednesday 2 March – Friday 4 March
  • Elevate Education: Thursday 17 March

Homework Club

Homework Club is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays 3 pm-4 pm in the Resource Centre The first session commences on Tuesday 22 February once students have settled into  their classes.

We look forward to supporting our students, parents and families in helping them achieve a productive and successful year ahead.
