Assistant Principal's Report

Start of the Year

Scoresby Secondary College staff commenced the school year with a very successful professional learning program held on Friday 28 January. The theme of the program was improving student outcomes. Staff had the opportunity plan and develop curriculum and prepare for the up-coming year. Teachers will be working with each other in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and alongside students to ensure our curriculum continues to engage and challenge student learning. We will continue supporting students at their point of need with extension work provided to those students that need it as well as extra supports for those students that need it. Our Sub-School teams looked at how they can best support students throughout year, both in and out of the classroom and will continue to support the needs of all individuals.

On Monday 31 January we welcomed our new Year 7 students along with the return of our Year 11 and 12 students. We also held a mini orientation session for the new students to our school (Years 8-10). The Year 8-10 students were welcomed back on Tuesday 1 February.

We have our first Parent Information Night for the year coming up soon:

  • Tuesday 22 February – Year 7. This night is for the parents / guardians of your year 7 students. Due to current restrictions this will again be conducted online this year.

Compass

All parents / guardians of students have access to the Compass Parent Portal (https://scoresbysc-vic.compass.education).

Compass is an excellent and efficient way for parents to keep up to date with their son/daughter’s progress at school. Through the Parent Portal, you can:

• view up-to-date class and school attendance information;

• approve past or future absences (medical certificates will need to be provided to approve VCE/VCAL absences);

• book your Parent/Student/Teacher conferences; and

• access information regarding upcoming events via the Calendar and news.

Parents are reminded they should not share their Parent Portal password with their son/daughter. Students have their own access to Compass.

If you have had any difficulty accessing your Parent Portal account or using it, please contact the office.

Study Periods

Students in Year 11 and 12 may have study periods throughout the week. These are provided as part of the timetable so students can study, complete work, meet with teachers,  liaise with the careers coordinator etc.   Students are therefore required to be in attendance at school from the start of each day  even if they have a study period first period of the day (Year 11 - 8:45 am, Year 12 – 8:50 am; assembly days 8:35 am).

Riding to School

For the safety of the students riding their bikes to and from school, they are reminded that by law they are required to wear a helmet while riding.

Students that elect to bring their bike to school are also reminded that they must dismount and walk their bike through the school grounds to the bike shed.

Students should also ensure that their bike is locked with a secure lock.
