Our 2022

School Theme

Each year at COHR we have a school theme, which gives us a focus as we journey through the year. The theme usually comes from the main Gospel of the liturgical year. This year that gospel is the Gospel of Luke.

Luke wrote of Jesus' Sermon on the Plain, where He taught the Beatitudes. These are very similar to the Beatitudes in Matthews Gospel in the Sermon on the Mount. One link between both readings is that we are blessed in so many ways in our lives. There are many aspects of our lives that our faith makes rich and joyful. So this year as a community we are going to focus on our blessings, on the joy in our lives, on the happiness that we experience and how we can bring the joy and blessings of God to others.

Students have contributed to our 'Blessed Are You' mural in the foyer. Each child drew or wrote about a blessing in their life. They are an amazing array from looking forward to a new baby in the family, playing sport, learning new things or sharing time with friends and family.

So I invite you to PAUSE and STOP and COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS, especially in this topsy turvy world we are living in. God has given us all many blessings and this year we are

going to look for them and celebrate them!

A reading from the Gospel of St Luke

Then Jesus looked up at his disciples and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,

    for yours is the kingdom of God.

 “Blessed are you who are hungry now,

    for you will be filled.

“Blessed are you who weep now,

for you will laugh.

“Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man.

Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven;

for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets.

(Luke 6:20-23)
