We are proud to have celebrated National Reconciliation Week at the College. This week is about acknowledging and learning about our shared histories, cultures and achievements!

Each SELF class from Year 7 to 12 learnt about the importance of reconciliation through a range of engaging and interactive activities centred around this year’s theme ‘Be a Voice for Generations’. Students created posters, watched documentaries, engaged in important discussion, and learnt about the Voice to Parliament.

Marram Hammond and Warragul Hammond sat down with Sharon Francis to create the Indigenous inspired menu that ran all week in the Valleydale Café, in celebration of National Reconciliation Week. The students cooked with a range of flavours, such as wattleseed, lemon myrtle and saltbush!

During the week, First Nations students attended their final visit to Yarra Ranges Tech School and participated in their termly Yarning Circle. We were excited to be joined by previous Port Adelaide player, Joel Garner who facilitated the Yarning Circle!   The students presented their projects they created at the showcase hosted by Yarra Ranges Tech School where we were joined by Aunty Joy Murphy and members from the community to learn about the projects the students have been working on over the semester. Throughout the program First Nations guest speakers and mentors across a range of industries including science and technology, game design, culinary and local government were invited to speak with students about their career pathways and opportunities.

This week is an ideal opportunity for all Australians to explore the ways that they can join the reconciliation effort, and we are proud to be facilitating these opportunities at Lilydale Heights College.
