Year 1

Ms Crane, Ms Conforto, Ms Russo, Ms Harrington, Ms Maher, Ms Ripper and Ms Bowden

What a busy term we have had in Year 1! Our students have been showing our school values every day, both inside the classroom and outside in the playground. We are so proud of everything they have achieved so far this year, and the teachers are very excited to see their growth continue in Term 3.

Literacy

We have had a very busy term, focusing on the Little Learners Love Literacy Stage 4+, Stage 5 and Stage 6 digraphs – ll, ff, ck, sh, ch, tch, th, ng, ph and wh. The Year 1 students have been practising reading fluently every day and looking at punctuation marks at the end of each sentence to make our reading more interesting. We have also been reading lots of wonderful stories in class, as a part of the Premier’s Reading Challenge! We are so excited to reach 30 books and achieve our goal.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we have been revising addition and subtraction strategies and developed our knowledge of halving collections of things, to make sure we have a ‘fair share’. We have also been learning how to tell the time using an analogue clock, using o’clock and half past.

History

This week we concluded our History unit, where we spent this term learning about our personal history and how things have changed over time. Our students brought in a special item from their own personal history and presented it to the class. We learnt how schools, technology and families have changed over time. The Year 1 students were very glad that they did not go to school in the past!

The Year 1 teachers have been very busy planning lots of exciting activities and lessons for next term, including the Year 1 Dinner and Disco!

We hope you have a happy and safe break!

From the Year 1 teachers,

Teagan Crane, Chelsea Conforto, Rebecca Russo, Michelle Harrington, Louisa Maher, Olivia Ripper and Kiata Bowden.
