Term 3, 2023

SPORTS REPORT

Term 3 sport at Dromana College kicked off with resounding success! Our cross-country team headed to the Yarra Valley Racing Club for the prestigious State Championships. Comprised of three outstanding athletes—Imogen Baker, Isabel Bayliss, and William Hailes—our team demonstrated remarkable dedication and skill, representing our college with excellence.

Special accolades are in order for Imogen Baker, who came first in her event for state cross country. An incredible achievement indeed! Imogen's remarkable talents extended beyond this triumph as she clinched second place in the all-schools cross-country, and also finished an astonishing 23rd in the national event! Well done, Imogen.

In addition to our remarkable cross-country performances, Dromana College had an outstanding showing in various team sports. In the Southern Peninsula District (SPD), our teams dominated Term 3, claiming the following championships:

Throughout Term 3, we saw many teams from various year levels proudly representing our school at the next tier of school sports—the Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR). Dromana College was exceptionally well-represented, with a total of 14 teams competing against some of the finest schools in the region across a diverse range of sports including soccer, hockey, football, table tennis, badminton and netball. Our Year 7 girls soccer team and Intermediate girls Netball “B” team showcased their talent by securing the runner-up position in the SMR division—an outstanding achievement for all involved.

I am continually impressed by our school's high participation rate, and I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all students who have proudly represented Dromana College. Witnessing our school values embodied by our students brings forth a deep sense of pride.

In reflection, Term 3 has been a testament to our school's dedication to sporting excellence and teamwork. As we look forward to future challenges and victories, I am confident that the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship that defines Dromana College will continue to shine brightly.

CYCLING ACADEMY

It has been a big term for the Dromana College Cycling Program this term.

We had a number of rides out of school along the roadside trails around Red Hill and up onto the trails in the Arthurs Seat State Park. Students and Staff honed their climbing and descending skills by riding as a group amongst the beauty of the local bush. One week we even managed to climb all the way to Eagle at the Summit of Arthurs Seat!

Many Dromana College students have continued to compete in the Alpine Stars Schools Mountain Bike Race Series. Round 2 was held at Lysterfield and Round 3 was at the You Yangs State Park. Congratulations to all those who raced at the events for the school and earned points towards the overall Aggregate Schools Trophy.

The final round is happening on 17th September in Bendigo where the overall Winning Primary and Secondary Schools Champions will be announced!

The Rye Bike shop has started a complimentary pick-up and delivery service for the Dromana College community. You can have your bike taken away in the morning, serviced by professional bike mechanics, and returned working better than ever at the end of the same school day. This is happening each Tuesday at the School Bike Shed. Pre-booking at the Rye Bike shop is essential if you wish to take up this exclusive offer.

Have a safe school holiday period everyone, and remember to “RIDE YOUR BIKE”.
