3/4 B

Week 9 Term 2

Super Sentences

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about and wriitng our own super sentences. We have looked at simple, compound and complex sentences. We've looked into identifying different types of sentences in our writing and the writing of others. The students have also had practise at writing their own simple, compound and complex sentences. We have looked into different types of conjunctions that we call FANBOYS. FANBOYS is an acronym of different conjunctions we can use to expand our writing.

For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So. FANBOYS are often used in compound sentences. Complex sentences use different conjunctions such as although, however, depite, which and unless.

Money, Money, Money

For the final week of term we have completed a solo taxonomy on Money. Similar to our previous time unit, the students were assessed on their understanding of money and then were given a set of activities to do to further their understanding. Each set of tasks had further complexity and challenged their thinking and understanding of the conepts being taught. To move onto the next set of tasks, students were required to demonstrate their knowledge through a short assessment. This also challenged the students to be self directed learners, work in pairs and small groups, take reponsibility for their learning and improve their time management.

First Holy Communion

A big congratulations to the students from Year 3/4 who last Sunday celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Communion at St Francis Xavier Church. In particular I would to say well done to Mercy, Thomas, Valentina, Mackenzie, Holly, Lincoln, and Gianni. The children did the most fantastic job in what was a very prayerful celebration.

Respectful Relationships

This term our Respectful Relationships topic has been personal strengths. We've looked at identifying our current strengths and those strengths that we need to improve. In the past week we have identified 3 strengths that we'd like to make a conscious effort to improve in. Some of those strengths included: fairness, honesty, bravery, self control, leadership, humour, curiousity and generosity. Below, some of the class wanted to share a strength that they want to improve in.

Wishing you a wonderful winter break! See you all in term 3!

Kind regards, Brendan.
