Junior Boys Football

On Thursday the 1st of June, Ballarat High School hosted the Junior Boys' Football Competition. Phoenix Community College was our first opponent, being coached by former Beaufort Secondary College staff member, Andrew Hooper. They were a formidable opponent and although Liam Sage and Harry Welsh put in strong performances due to their straight goal kicking, we were unable to stay with the skilled Phoenix students who were able to pull away in the final half. Beaufort 2-0-12 Phoenix 6-5-41

For the second game Beaufort faced a big Ballarat High School team however our boys were not going to shake in their boots. Mr Tatchell gave an inspiring pre-game speech, which had a positive impact on the team,  and Beaufort took the lead throughout the game. Young gun Dilan Wade was able to snag a great goal from 20 metres out, while teammate Liam Myles gathered it from the ground, gave his opponent the ‘don’t argue’, before wheeling around to kick a goal.

Late in the first half Ballarat was able to snag a last minute goal, despite great defending efforts from Zavier Duff and Lachie Sullivan. Defenders continued their great work in the second half as Ballarat got the upper hand in the midfield. Hustle efforts from Rory Bourke and Zavier Duff ensured Ballarat was not getting a clear kick at goal. Unfortunately in the final two minutes the opponent was able to get a clear shot, which they utilised. Final scores were Beaufort 2-2-14 and Ballarat 2-6-18. Despite every effort being put in to try to grasp victory back, we were unsuccessful, due to Ballarat's very defensive game in the final minutes.

The final game had Beaufort matched up against a winless Mount Rowan, who had gone down in many close games. Both teams were in an arm-wrestle, trying to kick the first goal, with points kicked by both teams. However it was only a matter of time, as Mount Rowan kicked the first goal of the match, just before half time. With tired legs the Beaufort team endured a tough second half with Mount Rowan peppering the points. The hard work throughout the midfield from Thomas Grant and Thomas Kehoe was, unfortunately, not enough to secure a goal for Beaufort. Beaufort 0-2-2 Mount Rowan 1-5-11

GWR Cross Country

On Monday the 29th of May, the Greater Western Region conducted the Cross Country in windy Warrnambool, which definitely lived up to its reputation. With some students unable to attend due to sickness, Beaufort still had an elite force of 6 students competing.

Evalyn Hayward had the pressure of going first, however was able to keep a consistent pace while others in her age group tried to go too fast too early. Beaufort Run Club frequent flyer Billy Welsh flew through the course, scoring himself a 7th place finish which will see him go onto the next round. Thomas Grant and Meg Lyons, although not feeling 100%, were still fierce competitors in the 12/13 Year Old age group, while Annie Kehoe held a consistent pace in her race and pushed herself to keep up with the leaders of the event, earning herself 6th place. Fletcher Holz, having supported and cheered for each student as they competed, was the last to race on the day (17-20 year olds). Fletcher was able to keep with the middle of the pack and although wasn’t able to finish in the top 20 he still completed the 5 kilometre race in 20 minutes, which highlights the level of talent that he and the rest of the students were up against. A big congratulations to all students who competed and a massive thank you to the parents who came and showed their support and assisted on the day.
