ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY
Doncaster Secondary College acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which our school is situated, the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to elder's past, present and emerging and extend that respect to any and all Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. We value the ongoing contribution to the cultural heritage that the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people provide to our school as well as the city of Manningham. We recognise that this land was never ceded and there is no treaty, and we commit to efforts towards reconciliation as a school community. We at Doncaster Secondary College are inclusive of individuals from all backgrounds including the LGBTQIA+, culturally and linguistically diverse as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
On Tuesday evening our Year 12 students attended the stunning Vogue Ballroom for their formal event. This glamorous event served as a significant milestone, marking the end of Unit 3, and providing our students with a chance to relax, and reflect on the year and their school journey. It was heartwarming to witness the tight-knit bonds amongst our students and staff, reflecting the essence of the strong Doncaster community. Adding to the night were the Greek and Persian cultural dances, showcasing the rich diversity within our college. The dance floor came alive as students enthusiastically participated, their faces glowing with the enjoyment of the shared experience. These dances brought a unique flavour to the event, emphasizing our respect and appreciation for multiculturalism, and fostering a sense of unity within our diverse community. As we celebrate the end of another memorable event, we look forward to continuing to build upon these shared experiences in our journey together at Doncaster Secondary College.
Thank you to Mr. Tennent, Mr. Shirley, and all the students on the events committee for your work in organising this event.
It is often said that education isn't simply about academics; it is a journey of personal growth and self-discovery. This term, our students have continued to strive, showing courage and strength, learning that every step towards achieving their personal best often comes with its share of discomfort and difficulty.
Sometimes it can feel like we are the only ones experiencing the discomfort which comes from the challenge however, this is a shared human experience, and part of life. The lessons learned from how we face our challenges are what shape our students into resilient individuals, ready to face the world beyond the gates of Doncaster Secondary College.
Our outstanding wellbeing program and caring staff are always here to support students and families on this journey, offering guidance and resources to build these qualities. However, we also uphold high standards and expectations because we believe in our student’s capability to rise to the occasion.
Rising to the occasion and achieving long-term goals requires grit, determination, and perseverance. These qualities are demonstrated when our students spend extra time studying in the library, senior study centre, homework club, involvement in the VCE mentoring program, asking for help when a subject is challenging or staying behind to ask the teacher questions. It is demonstrated when students spend extra time on the sports field, or the additional rehearsal after school, and attending school every day unless impacted by illness. It means choosing to put in the extra effort, even when it's tough.
By setting clear goals and creating a plan to achieve them, our students learn to navigate their path. They also learn how to do this by observing the actions of the adults around them and how we remain committed and show resilience during testing times. At Doncaster Secondary College our staff work diligently to create an environment that nurtures this quality.
Our commitment at Doncaster Secondary College is not just to provide an excellent academic education but to prepare our students for life beyond school, a world that will undoubtedly present challenges. Grit, determination, and perseverance are qualities that will help our students not only meet these challenges but exceed them. We remain dedicated to supporting each of our students as they strive to achieve their personal best. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for their tireless efforts this term. We look forward to continuing this journey together, celebrating each step towards our goals, no matter how big or small.
As term 2 comes to an end, it fills me with immense pride and gratitude to be a part of this vibrant and resilient Doncaster Secondary College community. The demonstration of our college values across academic and extracurricular activities, serve as reminders of what we can achieve when we strive for our personal best. As we embark on our well-deserved break, I encourage you to reflect on your achievements, rest, and recharge. We look forward to welcoming you back next term, ready to embrace fresh challenges and opportunities for growth. Remember, your journey of learning extends beyond the classroom, and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way. Thank you for your ongoing dedication and commitment to excellence.
Wishing you a relaxing and enjoyable break.
