Developing Social Skills and Reducing Social Isolation in Children with ASD
Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Professionals: $30 Parents/Carers: $25
Presented by Child Psychologist Raelene Dundon
Social rejection and isolation can have a lasting impact on children with Autism, just as it does on their typically developing peers. While the impairments in social communication and interaction that characterise Autism can act as barriers to forming successful peer relationships, with support and understanding, children with Autism can learn strategies to more successfully navigate their social world.
This workshop will discuss the benefits of establishing peer connections on mental health/ wellbeing, explain why children with Autism experience social difficulties, and provide practical strategies that can be used by parents and teachers to support children with Autism to be successful in social interactions and peer relationships.
