Heights of Hope Official Launch

We're so proud of the 'Heights of Hope' book - a wonderful collection of your stories about this special community.  If you weren't at the launch and would like an early copy, parents please pop into Reception to collect one.  We will be distributing them at upcoming Information Nights and Celebration Night also.  A big thank you to all those who wrote stories and attended the launch.  It was a great time!

ICAS High Achievers in English

Homer Simpson once said, “English? Who needs that? I’m never going to England.”

Congratulations to these students for their outstanding ICAS English results:

  • Ben Cramer 98th Percentile
  • Enoch Chan 96th Percentile
  • Sam Ford 94th Percentile
  • Max Ford 94th Percentile
  • Essy March 93rd Percentile

There are some great families of words in the English language.

‘Contronyms’ are where a word has two seemingly opposite meanings:

Garnish: to add (to a meal) and to take away (wages)

Model: an exemplar or a copy

Overlook: to supervise or neglect

Refrain: to desist or to repeat (in music)

Sanction: to approve or to boycott… just to name a few

Sometimes I wonder if the word ‘student’ could also have some contronymic qualities. Of the 50 BHCS students who sat the ICAS English test, the following five students have demonstrated a level of ‘expertise’ beyond the traditional definitions of ‘student’.

Congratulations to all the BHCS students who sat the ICAS English Test.

Mullum Cluster Awards

The awards night was held at Rowville Secondary College on Tuesday, 18 October. This night awards excellence in the area of VET education.  BHCS is proud to be a member of the Mullum Cluster which offers students an opportunity to undertake VET subjects along side their VCE studies.

In Year 2, the nominees were Tiana W and Chelsea R.  Congratulations go to Chelsea as the winner of the award.

Special thanks to our Trainer, Mrs Rowena Kohinga for all the time and effort she puts into her classes. Your hard work is appreciated by the students and the whole BHCS community!

Sun Smart in Term 4

As the weather begins to warm up, it is strongly encouraged that students bring a labelled,  reusable water bottle to school each day to ensure that they stay sufficiently hydrated.

Students are permitted to take a water bottle in to their classes with them.

From September/October, Victoria’s UV levels are on the rise, so it’s important that during Term 4 extra sun protection is used by students. Hats are to be worn by all students during recess and lunch times. SPF 30+ plus broad spectrum, water resistant sunscreen should be applied daily before going outdoors. Daily temperatures should not be used as a guide to when sun protection is needed. When the temperature is cool, it means there is less infrared radiation, but UV levels can still be high. Students are reminded to be extra cautious. Don’t forget to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP!
