From the Principal

An extra Year 5 class in 2024

We are beginning to grow our primary school from the top down. With the numbers on our waiting lists, we could start more than just Year 5. However, we are being cautious with the ongoing teacher shortage. If you know of anyone who has children in Year 5 next year and are interested, please let them know. A downside of this decision will mean we will have very few Year 7 places on offer in 2026 and we don’t want anyone to miss out.

COVID Procedure

COVID is still around along with other viruses some of which seem worse. Here is a reminder of our protocols to keep all students and staff safe and the college functioning.

Students who are symptomatic should not attend the college. Students who develop symptoms during the day will be isolated until their parents can collect them.

Students who test positive for COVID are recommended to isolate for a minimum of 5 days from all activities. They must not attend school during these 5 days and following isolation, not attend until their significant or multiple symptoms have resolved.

Camps - students going on over-night excursions or camps are now required to test with a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) the day before the camp. Free RATs are available from the reception area of the office upon request.

If the student tests positive or is symptomatic they should not attend the camp.

Students who develop symptoms while on camp will need to undertake a RAT and if positive be isolated until they can be collected by their parents.

Masks – Students who choose to wear masks will be supported by staff.

The college continues to be mindful of ventilation, hygiene, distancing, and mask wearing.

Carpark caring for kids

In the last few weeks there have been a few close calls. Cars nearly hitting students and cars nearly hitting cars. Remember as humans we rely on things happening slowly and in the way we expect.

If you are running late, please take extra care to focus and slow down. Pressure causes mistakes.

Obey the direction of traffic. Children don’t expect cars to be going the wrong way.

When reversing, do so slowly, that gives children and other cars time to notice you are moving.

Only use the carpark areas when children are not in class. They do not expect to see cars driving up the hill to the Administration area before and after school.

I know that generally we are polite and careful in the carpark. I am proud of how we handle pressure times. It is during the unexpected, the rushed, and emotional times that accidents happen.

Fun facts about Christian schools

A recent survey of Australians in their early 30s indicated that different school sectors had different outcomes for their students. The following graphics compare responses from Government, Catholic, Independent and Christian schools.

Graduates rate Christian schools highly with respect to preparation for university, purpose in life and dealing with personal relationships. At PVCC, we aim to help students grow academically, in character, within relationships and spiritually.
