Foundation Unit

Halfway through Foundation, we cannot believe it!! We are so proud of everything the students have accomplished this semester! We hope you have had a chance to celebrate with your children just how far they have come since the start of the year. From coming in with very little letter and sound knowledge, to reading full sentences and identifying sight words, to writing multiple sentences! Just amazing!!! Thank you to all those families who have been helping at home, encouraging home reading and other writing and maths opportunities.

In Reading, we have been learning about Questioning. We used this anchor chart to help prompt us. The students have loved asking questions to help them better understand their reading.

In Writing, we have been writing personal narratives. We have also been using our Writer’s Notebook to prompt some writing for our Free Write Friday! Some students have written personal narratives and others have written facts about animals!

In Maths, we have been learning to tell o’clock times on an analogue clock. So many students were excited to show us their watches! We have also learnt how to identify the days of the week (especially the difference between the tricky Tuesday and Thursday) and what special things we do everyday.

In Science, we did an experiment by putting celery in a cup of food dye/water mixture to see what would happen! We learnt how plants use and need water.

JU1 worked with their Grade 2/3 buddies to create these wonderful winter pictures using crayons and watercolour paints!

We wish all our families a lovely break over the holidays and look forward to seeing everyone back at the start of Term 3!
