Middle Unit -2/3

Wow! Term 2 done and dusted - and what a wonderful term it has been!

The students enjoyed a casual clothes day last week and it was fantastic to see their personalities shining through.

In Literacy, we have been combining our Reading and Writing lessons to gain a deeper understanding of ‘writer’s craft’. Each week, students have been reading a series of texts from one author and analysing the techniques they use to make their writing engaging. They’ve also had the opportunity to write book reviews, author studies, analyse the illustrations and write the next chapter of the book. It has been an engaging unit of work and the students have shared some wonderful insights into the author’s purpose or message.

In Numeracy, we have been working on addition and subtraction strategies. You might like to quiz us on solving 2 digit addition and subtraction sums! We have been practising using split strategy, jump strategy, friendly numbers and some of us have had a go at compensation strategy! It has been a fantastic unit where students have developed their skills - ready to build on them when we tackle multiplication next term!

Our special activity recently was joining forces with others in the class to create the ultimate emergency service vehicle! In small groups, students discussed the key elements they discovered during their information report research. They then worked as a team to combine those ideas into the ‘ultimate emergency service vehicle’ that could assist in almost any situation! Their creations were creative and colourful!

Lastly, Miss Tobin is heading off on Maternity Leave after the first week of Term 3. She promises to send through updates when bubs arrives, and will hopefully schedule a visit to introduce her little girl.

Have a wonderful break everyone!
