Furniture Design (9FRD)

Curriculum Focus 

In Furniture Design you will design and create a small table for an end-user of your choice. They will tell you what the intended function is and where it is to be placed. You will document and assess the space and design and make a suitable product to enhance this space. You will learn to use a range of timbers, processes, tools and equipment when making your product. These will include: drilling, cutting, hole-boring and sanding to create a beautifully resolved table.

Textile Design (9TX)

Curriculum Focus

 

In Textile Design you will have the opportunity to get creative as you explore screen‐printing, dyeing and a variety of sewing techniques such as applique and machine embroidery. You will create your own textile products such as zip purses, cushions, bags and quilts, etc. Imagine when people ask, “Wow! Where did you buy that?”, and you can say “I made it myself!" You will also investigate sustainability and its relevance to the textile industry so you are aware of local, national and global issues and how they impact on the environment.

Creating Global Flavours - Food Studies (9CGF)

Curriculum Focus

 In Creating Global Flavours you will sample and prepare a range of dishes from around the world. You will have the chance to explore a range of ingredients, food trends and develop new cookery skills. You will have the chance to cook dishes that follow the global and hospitality theme as well as delve into a country of your own choice, discovering typical flavours and traditional dishes.

Fashion Design (9FD)

 

Curriculum Focus

 

In Fashion Design, students learn about the design and production processes that are relevant to clothing manufacture which include the identification of an end-user, the development of mood boards and garment construction techniques. By the end of the unit, students will be able to develop and respond to a design brief, evaluate designs, lay and cut fabric using a commercial pattern and operate a domestic sewing machine to construct sleepwear or loungewear.

Jewellery Design (9JD)

Curriculum Focus

 

In Jewellery Design you will investigate, design and produce a range of jewellery pieces. You will discover the versatility and beauty of plastics  and experience fascinating new technologies such as laser cutting and sublimation printing onto acrylic and metal. Techniques such as drilling, saw‐piercing, heat‐forming and laminating  acrylics will be covered, as well as the application of jewellery findings. There will be a focus on the concept of sustainability as you utilise flexible plastics in the form of remnants from the stationery industry and other non‐conventional materials to create your own stunning jewellery.
