Visual Communication and Design students

Year 10, 11 & 12 Visual Communication and Design students from the Cranbourne Campus ventured into the city to experience the Escher x Nendo: Between Two Worlds exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.

The exhibition focuses on the incredible woodcut and lithograph monochromatic prints produced by the famous Dutch graphic artist E.C. Escher displayed in immersive environments created by the internationally renowned Japanese design studio Nendo.

The day started with an engaging educational lecture about the artist who passed away in 1972, the design company that was established in 2002 and how these two worlds came together to create this dynamic exhibition.

Students were then allowed into the gallery space to experience the monochromatic world that Nendo created to display the works of M.C. Escher. Line, Form, Tone, Point, Shape, Contrast, Balance, Scale, Pattern and Proportion play pivotal roles in both Escher’s and Nendo’s works. Students were asked to identify as many of the elements and principles of design associated with the artworks on display and the environments they are displayed in. This resulted in them leaving the gallery with a profoundly elevated appreciation of how art and design and intrinsically linked and how that is related to their studies of Visual Communication and Design.

A massive thank you to Ms Fox for organising this incredible experience for the students.
