Advent Week 2

During the Advent season we are preparing for the coming of Jesus.  In last Sunday's Gospel John the Baptist told people he baptised them to change their lives to prepare the way for Jesus.

We must make changes in our lives. John the Baptist baptised people as an outward sign of cleansing. But they must prove they have changed their ways by their actions.

How can we change to prepare the way for Jesus? Is it always easy to make changes?

How do we feel when  teased by others or left out? Maybe if we know of someone being treated unkindly by others we could set an example by including that person in activities.

It takes courage to make changes, we can pray to have the courage to make necessary changes in our lives. If we are kind to the person who is being teased, then we run the risk that we will be teased too. That takes courage. God can help us to be brave.

Let us continue in this season of Advent to make changes in our lives in preparation to welcome  Our Lord.

Please join us in the hall for the remaining Advent celebrations:

Social Justice Initiatives

During this year the Social Justice Leaders have been very proactive in organising initiatives to support  people in our local community and wider communities around the world. In organising activities we have tried to follow the Catholic Social Teachings:

Listed below are all the organisations you have very generously supported this year:

  • Ongoing: Wrapper free lunches and snacks (Stewardship of Creation)
  • Project Compassion: $400 raised through donations at the Big Breaky and via donation boxes in the Learning Communities
  •  Sale of icy poles : $279.05 - money used to support initiatives
  • St Vincent de Paul:   Winter Appeal –  Donations of socks, beanies, gloves and money
  • Rotary (Donations in Kind): Chairs and computers that no longer meet our needs. Items were sent to schools in East Timor and Africa
  • Mary MacKillop Foundation: donation of $100
  • Catholic Mission: donation of used books for Myanmar school library
  • Asylum Seekers Resource Centre: food donations
  • St Vincent de Paul Society - Christmas Hampers Appeal: money from icy pole sales used to purchase items for Christmas hampers
  • Bendigo Bank Seddon Toy Drive: donation of gifts for asylum seeker children

Thank you very much to all of our Social Justice Leaders: Sophie, Bianca, Anna, Liv, Maddie and Elle. They have been very passionate about their roles and are to be commended for the way they have carried out their duties (and kept me on track!) as they encouraged others to be socially just.

Thank you to  our families for supporting all we do at Corpus Christi. Wishing everyone all the blessings of Christmas and the gifts of love, peace and happiness. May you all have a very safe and relaxing holiday.

God bless
