IAPCON 2020

Indian Association of Palliative Care Conference

The 27th International Conference of Indian Association of Palliative Care is being organised in Guwahati, Assam from 14 to 16 February 2020. You are all cordially invited.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Entrust, Engage and Empower’. The objectives of this year’s conference are:

  • To improve and expand the existing knowledge and skills of individuals working in palliative care
  • To augment the ability to provide professional, competent and empathic care to patients and their families
  • To ensure the timely delivery of palliative care in the community by advocating and facilitating increased awareness about palliative care
  • To take up our collective responsibility to ensure the availability of essential drugs in palliative care
  • To provide an opportunity and the platform for informal caregivers to learn about palliative care

Guwahati is the largest city in north-east India. To hold the conference here represents a major step forward in continuing the development of palliative care in this part of India. For many years the north-east has been an important focus of Project Hamrahi outreach visits.

Plenary sessions will be held on palliative care education in India, the political will for the prevention and relief of suffering at the end of life, integrating palliative care in the continuum of care and palliative care as a part of universal health coverage. Interestingly, the conference will conclude with a debate on implementing advance directives in India.
