Metro Tunnel Project

Industry Experience Day

On Tuesday 19th March, 19 of our students were lucky enough to be invited to visit the METRO Tunnel Project 2019.

The Metro Tunnel Industry Experience Day was aimed to build students’ knowledge of the world of work focused around the Metro Tunnel Project being undertaken in Melbourne’s CBD.

Students got to:

•             Take a walking tour to view Town Hall Station construction site where they learnt about the tunnel alignment, tunnel boring and the challenges of managing a large scale infrastructure project in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.

•             They met graduates working on the project in an informal setting where students asked questions about pathways into industry, what the graduates enjoy about their job and what their day on the project involves.

•             Students explored the project's visitor centre, Metro Tunnel HQ, where they had the opportunity to engage with interactive displays and use virtual reality to explore the world of tunnel boring.

•             Students then created a profile of their own skills and interests and explored potential roles that might suit them on a large scale project like the Metro Tunnel.

More Industry Experience Days will be coming up this year so I encourage all students to get in quick as numbers are limited.

We will be visiting The Rail Academy in April. An exciting opportunity to look at Careers related to the Rail Industry.

Feel free to see Ms Taylor in Careers for more information.
