Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2018 has now been officially opened. This is the fourteenth year the challenge has been running, and we are very proud to have had students involved each year. The Reading Challenge has helped inspire children to read more widely, more frequently and develop a love of reading. Since the Challenge began in 2005, over two million students have read an amazing 38 million books.

The Challenge is open to all students in Prep to Year 10. It is a personal challenge for children involved to read a set number of books over six months.  The Challenge for Prep to Year 2 students, requires them to read or ‘experience’ 30 books whilst those students in Years 3 to 10, need to read 15 books. The Challenge runs from March until the end of August. All books read for the challenge will be counted towards the Aitken College Wide Reading Program which runs for students in Years 5 – 9.

Children who meet the challenge will be rewarded with a certificate of achievement signed by the current Premier of Victoria, Mr Daniel Andrews MP, and past Premiers who have supported the program. They will also have the opportunity to see their name on an Honour Roll.

A letter inviting all students in Prep to Year 2, and Year 7 to Year 10 was sent home recently, and students from Year 8 to Year 10 were invited to collect a registration form from the Library.  All students in Year 3 to Year 6 have already been registered, as part of a joint reading competition with Cumberland. Passwords for the Challenge site will be distributed at the end of March. If you have misplaced the registration letter, please see a member of the Library staff to collect another.

More information about the Challenge can be found on the official website at www.education.vic.gov.au/prc. Here you will find comprehensive information about key dates, frequently asked questions for parents and students, guidelines and the 2018 Challenge book list.
