The Br Amedy Molloy Arts Prize and Virtual Visual Arts Exhibition

Ms Tania Robison

The Br Amedy Molloy Arts Prize is an annual award open to students studying VCE Units 3 and 4 of Studio Arts, Media or Visual Communication Design. The prize is named after Br Amedy Molloy, a De La Salle brother and founding principal of St John’s Regional College. Br Amedy was himself a practising artist and art teacher. The winning artwork becomes part of the college’s art collection and the student is awarded $200 in prize money.

Ezra Isma – Ezra’s media work entitled “Nonna” is a 10 minute documentary about his grandmother, an Italian immigrant. Her story is told through archival footage and interviews providing the viewer with an engaging insight in to the rich history that has shaped her personal journey.

Tofy Jorissen – Tofy’s large scale acrylic painting is entitled “Death has not changed”.  It appropriates the famous work “The Third of May” by Goya and in doing so reflects on the fact that people are dying the same way that they did thousands of years ago. Whilst Goya’s work depicted the Peninsular War, Tofy took inspiration from the Black Lives Matter protests and has attempted to connect these two historical events by mirroring the composition of Goya’s original image.

Kevin Williams – Kevin is a Year 11 student who has completed Unit 3 and 4 of Visual Communication Design this year. His folio explored and developed concepts for a commemorative pen and flagship store for the brand Wolfram. These designs demonstrate Kevin’s exceptional drawing skills and promising future in graphic design.

This year’s BAMAP Award winner is Ezra Isma

Congratulations to all three of these talented students.
