Visual and Creative Arts

The Art teachers have been impressed by the positive approach the girls have had whilst doing a practical subject during remote learning. When they chose their subjects they thought they would be in an Art room sharing creative ideas with classmates. Their creativity may have altered through necessity but thankfully it managed to continue thriving as is evident in the work they have produced!

Year 7 and 8 Art students did not do online Art classes during Lockdown 2.0 and have now returned to the Art room full of enthusiasm. The practical skills they are learning are ceramics, printmaking and painting.

Year 7 Art

Year 7 Art classes have been exploring the abstract designs of indigenous Australians.

They have been applying some of those design qualities and techniques to both foam relief prints and clay pinch pots.

The final task for this semester is a painting inspired by French and Australian Impressionist painters. Most of the Australian Impressionists painted along the Mentone and Beaumaris foreshore just over 100 years ago.

Year 8 Art

Year 8 Art classes started back and undertook a ‘coil vessel’ ceramics task.

Year 9 Art

Year 9 Art students (PDP) didn’t stop creating whilst they were undertaking remote learning. They developed ideas inspired by Australian artists, Barbara Hanrahan (printmaker) and Minna Gilligan (collage artist).

Using ideas from their imagination and ‘dreamlike’ world they made expressive collages, used Iinear techniques to design delicate works on ‘scratch art paper’ and also did 'dry point etchings' on acetate.

Upon their return to onsite schooling they have been happily carving their lino and getting their hands dirty printing final etchings and lino prints. Their last task for the semester is a landscape painting.

Year 10 Art

Whilst undertaking remote learning, Year 10 Art student researched Street Art, then created designs around the theme of ‘Freedom’. At home they prepared stencils so they could spray paint their skateboards when they returned to school. The girls were very resourceful, some used breakfast cereal boxes to make stencils!

After painting their skateboards they designed and printed stickers to enhance the authentic ‘street’ look of their exciting work.

Year 11 Art

Just prior to lockdown, the Year 11 Art and Studio Art classes took home supplies to keep them busy with their folio work.

The Year 11 Art students successfully completed a landscape painting inspired by their ‘cultural world.’ On their return to the College, they used the same composition to do a small oil painting and also, on their computers, they recreated the landscape as a digital artwork.

Year 11 Studio Arts

The 11 Studio Arts class spent the lockdowns developing potential ideas for their final folio. Since their return they have refined their ideas and have been working on their final artworks.

Congratulations to all students across each year level for their fantastic creations!
