Around the College

Head Boy and Head Girl, 2021

We'd love to introduce to you next year's Head Boy and Head Girl at Cornerstone Christian College. Announced before the Secondary cohort last week, was the news that Joshua Wittwer and Tyla Lindsay will lead the student body in 2021.

Congratulations to both of these remarkable students, who are a reflection of the heart of Cornerstone Christian College.

Cornerstone Film Festival, 2020

It's time to dig out your finest attire, get that hair appointment booked, and prepare for walking the red carpet.

It's Cornerstone Film Festival season!

When: Wednesday, 4 November @ 6:30pm

Where: Cornerstone Auditorium

Ticketing has had to be capped to comply with COVID-19 management rules, and so tickets are MANDATORY to join the actual film presentation within the auditorium.  No ticket is required to be part of the outside arrivals, but no access to the inside of the building will be allowed.

Here's how the ticketing will work.

All students who have a film being showcased at the event will receive one (1) ticket, and two (2) complimentary tickets will be issued to the parents of each of those students.

On Monday (2 Nov), the broader student population will be invited to secure a ticket during their lunch break.

If there are any remaining tickets after this process, they will be available from the front office on Tuesday (3 Nov) for the broader community or extended family members of those involved.

We appreciate your understanding of the tight controls we have in place to ensure we meet the lawful requirements that are applicable.

Your Say, Your Call 2020

Cornerstone has a rich history with the State's 'Your Say Your Call' film making competition. This year is no different.

The topic was 'Street Safety' and we have four finalists (individuals and groups) in the Top 10 that was announced last weekend. They are:

Tobias Momsen - Not Always Lucky

Katie Jarman - Alone

Eva Dragstra - Face Up, Phone Down

Hannah Burnley and Hope Adams - All Tied Up

These successful students are from Mr Arthur's and Mr Cleaver's Health classes.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at ECU Mt Lawley in November.

Furthermore, this year there is a new category called 'Student's Choice'. All ten films are available to view on the link below. A selection can be made for the favourite video to win a $1000 gift card. It would be great for as many people as possible in the community to vote for our videos. You just click on the video you like, scroll down and vote. You can only vote once from an IP address. Please support our students in this - and share the link amongst your friends and family.

The address is:

Congratulations to all our finalists. We are delighted for you all.

Busselton Playdate is Back!

Term Dates 2021

Term 1: Monday 1 Feb - Thursday 1 Apr

Term 2: Tuesday 20 April - Friday 25 Jun

Term 3: Tuesday 13 Jul - Friday 24 Sept

Term 4: Tuesday 12 Oct - Thursday 9 Dec

One of the consequences of COVID, is that changes have been made regarding staff development options in 2021 - most specifically, the requirement for our staff to attend the National CCM conference in July of next year.  We had previously advised that our holiday period in the middle of the year would be adjusted to make this possible, but with this situation now changed, school will resume two days earlier in Term 3 than previously stated.

Please note the above and mark your diaries accordingly.

Positive Behaviours

We are in the process of developing a system for identifying and reinforcing expected positive behaviours at Cornerstone. We are developing a whole school approach that intentionally rewards positive behaviour. Although we will still have a management system for negative behaviour, this proposed system will have an emphasis on developing character and upholding school values by acknowledging positive behaviour.

The matrix has been loosely based on the Positive Behaviour Interventions and Support (PBIS) used in some government and independent schools. It explicitly defines how we expect students to behave. This means everyone in our school community will have the same expectations.

The writing in blue are the six Learning Assets proposed by author and educator Kath Murdoch that are currently being used in our Primary school. Although these are not physical behaviours they are traits we want to keep at the forefront of our teaching as we prepare students for the workforce. The words in green are values we are already acknowledging and reinforcing through our Primary merit awards.

We would love some feedback from parents. Please let Judy Nolan or Garry Maynard know your thoughts on this approach and the matrix we have proposed.

Canteen

We have a request for our Primary parents.

We have a number of highly generous students who are bringing money from home to purchase treats from the canteen for their friends. Whilst we admire the intent and sharing, it is not something that can continue. Some students have allergies making this a situation of serious concern, but it also means that parents who are diligent with what they wish their children to consume are not able to monitor food intake.

Parents, please discourage your children from purchasing items for other students.

Thanks for your help.

Permapleat

Permapleat have announced an incremental price increase across most uniform items effective 1 January 2021. For your convenience the online store will remain open throughout the holidays.  Permapleat offices will close for the Christmas holidays, Monday 21 December 2020 and re-open on 11 January 2021.

The 2020 cut-off date for Campus uniform collection is Wednesday, 9th December. This means that parents placing online uniform orders after 5th December for Campus collection will only be processed and ready for collection from Monday, 25 January 2021 onward (when the College office reopens).

Busselton Campus Uniform Fitting for 2021

The office will be closed during the week 18th - 22nd due to staff training. However, for your convenience the Busselton Campus Uniform fitting room will reopen on Monday, 18th January. No appointments are necessary but we do ask that only one family accesses the room at a time. Each family will sign-in on the register located at the uniform room. Please note, all students must be accompanied by a parent for fittings.

Front Office Uniform Sales

The College holds a limited number of socks and hats for purchase at the Front Office. To avoid disappointment, we encourage parents to place their orders online in the first instance and to make purchases via the office for top-ups in between.

Lost and Found

If your child has misplaced a uniform item, students and parents are encouraged to check the Lost and Found property box. Parents are allowed access to the Lost and Found box during drop-off and pick up times. Students are welcome to check the box during recess and lunch breaks. Over time, even labelled uniform items become illegible due to wear and tear therefore it may not be possible for staff to reunite these items with their rightful owners. Due to hygiene reasons the Lost and Found Property Box will be cleared out at the end of the Term.
