LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

What a busy couple of weeks it’s been in the library! Book Fair has meant that library lessons and break times have been busy with children buying great books and other stationery items. Thank you to our families who have been able to support the Fair especially so close to Christmas. Our school receives a credit for each sale that’s made which we use to buy more books for our library. For students whose book has sold out and we reorder, this will be done on Friday so they should be back at school shortly.

The Book Fair closes for another year on Thursday afternoon so any purchases need to be made by then. Thank you!

Naidoc Week

Apart from being kept busy with the Book Fair, this week also sees us celebrate two very important annual events. First up is Naidoc week where we share some beautiful stories about Aboriginal culture. The two books I will be reading in lessons are ‘Tell Em’ by Katrina Germein and Rosemary Sullivan and ‘Baby Business’ by Jasmine Seymour (this won the Best New Illustrator category at this year’s CBCA Book of the Year awards).

In this book, we’ve been learning Aboriginal words for the following:

Child - gaayli

Family - dhiiyaan

Country - guinmaa

Mother - Guni

Walk - yana-y

Remembrance Day

One other very special day we stop to commemorate is RemembranceDay on the 11th of November. We are lucky to have many beautiful books about our soldiers and these are on display for students to borrow also. Lest We Forget.

Library Loans

As the end of the year approaches, I will start to send home overdue book reminders. It is important that students start to look for these books and if they can’t be found, please let me know so I can take these off their record. If families could ensure that all books are returned in the next few weeks would be appreciated.

New Books

Happy reading,
