MAGIS - Catholic School SciTech Brainstorm Challenge

18 Year 8 Magis students participated in the 2017 Catholic SciTech Brainstorm Challenge on Wednesday 5 May. It was a very enjoyable and certainly a brain challenging day.

141 students were placed in small groups and given four challenges.  The Laboratory Challenge was a chance to show off their technical skills as they analysed water to give advice on Marron farming.  The students were pushed in their decoding skills as they ventured out on the Maths Quest.  Engineering skills were then tested as students were challenged to come up with the best zip line to carry a “person” as safely and quickly as possible with the materials provided. The challenge was accepted with vigour. Finally, much discussion and debate occurred as students completed the Astronomy Quiz.

All students worked well together and it was wonderful to hear many SciTech staff comment on the politeness and general behaviour displayed by our students.

Congratulations to JTC Galaxies (Skye MacMillan, Alina Jory and Gabriel Kaye) who won the day and High Commendations to Those JTC Kids (Benjamin Negus, Tom Standen and Zack Picart) who narrowly came second.
