Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Today the whole Primary school celebrated Mass dedicated to all our wonderful Mothers. It was fantastic to see so many Mums gathered together for Mass and morning tea. It was lovely to have this opportunity to share morning tea with all of you. We hope you also enjoyed visiting the classrooms and receiving your homemade surprises. To those Mums who could not come along today, you were thought of and celebrated too! Special thanks to Miss Monastra and Year 2B children for preparing our beautiful liturgy. We also thank Fr Vincent Glynn for sharing God's blessings with our community.

Next Monday the Year 6 classes and a team of staff will head to Canberra to explore our National Capital. The program will concentrate on learning about our Nation’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. It is a busy and educational camp and a wonderful chance for our students to experience independence away from their families. Nevertheless, to get 59 students and six staff to Canberra is a huge logistical and expensive exercise. We acknowledge the Australian Government's generosity in providing a subsidy of $260 per eligible student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program towards the travel expenses incurred.

I'm sure the students will have many exciting stories to share on our return. In subsequent newsletters, we will publish photos and accounts of our experiences. Mrs Goss, Mrs Fontaine, Miss Joyce, Mrs Murphy, Mr Fromm and myself are looking forward to accompanying the students.

Children in Years 3 and 5 sat the NAPLAN tests which they managed with great confidence and maturity. Congratulations to all staff involved in preparing the students so well for these assessments. Results will be available in Term Three for parents and staff.

Finally, I wish all Mothers a wonderful Mother's Day for this coming Sunday.  As well as providing the support and love for their own children, John XXIII mothers are so important in the care of our College community through their many acts of generosity and involvement.

Kind Regards

SPECIAL MENTION

Well done to Henry Gouch (4G) for organising a cake bake fundraising last weekend at the City Beach Tennis Club.

He raised $817 for the Netta McKinlay Foundation “Netta” which was established to raise money to donate to charities, in particular, education centres who support children with Autism. This foundation was named after Netta McKinlay Gooch and follows her support in teaching children with autism and learning difficulties.

Congratulations Henry on this wonderful effort!
