Secondary

Year 7 Transition Week

Last week the Year 7 students participated in Transition Week. The move from primary to secondary school is a significant step in the learning journey of a student. Our students approached this step with enthusiasm and positivity – along with a healthy dose of nerves!

Meeting new friends and new teachers in home room groups was a high priority for the week. Playing games together, sitting the occasional assessment together and finding out about each other’s interests and hopes for the year helped bring a diverse group from many schools together as one Year 7 community.

They were joined on Monday afternoon by some of our Year 11 leaders who helped them navigate their way around the campus in the Heritage Scavenger Hunt. In both their first year group assembly and year group liturgy the students were challenged to develop a ‘yes’ attitude to school aided by Jesus in our midst just as John XXIII, Mary Ward and Ignatius of Loyola have done before.

The week ended spending time with the House Coordinators. Students learned about their House patrons and values before moving to the pool to finish the week in the pool competing in time trials and enjoying a well-earned cool down.

We look forward to a successful year with this wonderful group of young people.

STEM Drone Club

This week we officially flew the Science Department's drones for the first time. It was amazing how quickly the students adapted and picked up the knack of flying this technology.

After the first term (Term 1) of learning to fly the drones, the group will start to program them to fly in formation using the Scratch coding system.

The STEM Drone Club welcomes any student to participate in this activity. No drone flying experience is necessary. Any student still interested in being involved that has not contacted Mr Carrello or myself, is encouraged to do so.

Once again we would like to thank Mr Moran and the Science faculty for purchasing the drones for us.

Reminder to label school items

Just a reminder to parents and students to please make sure all their uniforms, pencil case and books have their names clearly labelled on each item, as there is a growing number of lost property items without labels.
