Junior School Highlights

What’s Happening in the Junior School

Welcome to all of our new students who are joining us for Semester 2 in the Junior School. Congratulations to all students who received academic excellence and endeavour awards at the Mid Year Awards Ceremony. It is always exciting to see students being recognised in front of peers, teachers and families for their successes.

Extra Curricular Highlights…

Rehearsals for the production, Fame Junior, are in full swing, with many Junior School students taking part in a variety of roles: cast and crew.  We look forward to watching all students shine throughout the shows and wish them all the best. As the saying goes, break a leg.

Late last term the Year 7 boys' soccer team won the Beachside Division round robin, defeating Albert Park College 1-0 to advance to the next stage of the competition. We wish them all the best for their next game in a few weeks time.

The Year 8 badminton team represented GEC at the SMR finals on Friday 4th August. Both teams, boys and girls, came 1st in their pool beating the others schools 6-0. The grand final was a tough match and ultimately the competition was too good for us this year. Both teams are the SMR runners up and took home another pennant to add to their collection. Congratulations to Cherry, Ysabelle, Sam, Georgia, Devanshi, Richard, Jacky, Karan, Sanjay and Ashwanth. A huge shout out to our supporters on the day, Mr Mishra and Mr Radhakrishnan, who came along to cheer on the team.

Congratulations to Tess Keogh who recently won the Victorian Public Speaking award, a fantastic achievement.

The Year 9 students are currently in the midst of subject selections for Year 10. This is linked with this term’s focus for the Year 9 Program on jobs and careers. This term students will have the opportunity to investigate possible career pathways as well as develop some handy job seeking skills such as how to write a resume and a cover letter and how to have a successful job interview. It is always an exciting time for the students who, towards the end of the term, get to dress up and participate in a mock job interview to practice their newly developed skills.

Semester 2 means new subjects for many students. You need to make sure you have all the required equipment for each of your classes. Parents, you can assist by looking at the planner on a weekly basis to see what events and activities are coming up.

We hope you have had a chance to go through your reports and discuss goals for Semester 2. If you need any support with your studies please see one of the Junior School Team.

From the Junior School Captains

We are off with a great start to the second semester! Congratulations to all students who received awards in the first week. We thank you for your hard work so far this year and hope it continues. We wish further congratulations to everyone who participated in the Geography Competition. We received some fantastic results, with Alex Ellenbogen and Antoine Hobbs receiving High Distinctions!

Well done to all interschool sporting teams who have gone out and represented the school this term.

The futsal competition has recently begun with students from all year levels competing for that top spot. Despite the absence of the gym this year, it is great to see the amount of  students not only participating in the event but everyone else who has come down to cheer on their peers. We have had a great first semester, so let's make the second one even better!
