On Japanese Day, the Year Five students learnt how to do Shibori dyeing using traditional folds and blue dye. During Visual Arts lessons, they made their Shobori cloth into pillows to keep.
The Year One students used their past knowledge of sewing a running stitch to create their original pin cushions. This activity took many weeks to complete, using many skills learnt in the past. We realised how many of our previous skills helped us to complete a task that we had not done before. We also added our own creativity and imagination to create an interesting and practical piece of art.
The Year Three/Four students spent a couple of sessions creating some items to dress their shadows such as: eyes, glasses, hairbands, headphones, donuts, mobiles, buttons, moustaches etc. Mr Nugent’s grade was the only grade to get to dress their shadows on Art day, due to lack of sun and then we had a little bit of difficulty with the wind. Some fun results though!!!
The Year Six children have completed three large canvases to leave a legacy at Kingswood Primary School. These pieces were commissioned by Mrs Cosentino to make a bold statement in the office area, beginning in 2018. They have been based on the definition of a snowflake which describes it as.....
A single ice crystal that has achieved a sufficient size, and may have grouped together to form snow. Complex shapes emerge, such that individual snowflakes differ in detail from one another. Once snowflakes land and accumulate, they undergo a metamorphosis and become a snowpack.
This is a definition that very much describes the seven year journey the Year Six students have had at Kingswood, showing their individuality and originality but at the same time, bonding as a pack to support and challenge each other. Well done Year Six and best wishes for the future.
Remember to recycle anything that could be reused over the Christmas holidays. For example, Lindor Chocolate boxes make great frames for art. The cheap trinkets and paper hats that are in bonbons can have a use in art. Please have a good look at your waste and see if it could be re-purposed and reduce our landfill.
Mrs Stach and Mrs Eeckman, would like to thank all those parents who sent valuable items in to the Art room, we love upcycling and recycling and looking at everyday items in a different way. Have a lovely and safe Christmas.
