Throughout this year, the students in Prep have enjoyed their class teddies. These teddies went home with the 'Writer of the Week' each week and everyone was able to spend a weekend with their class teddy; documenting their adventures in a journal. In Prep B, this teddy was called 'Hoppy'. Once everyone had taken home Hoppy, we were tossing up what to do with him next year. The students came up with lots of options including putting him in the library for everyone to see or rotating him around next years classes.
When we got the notice about Ray White's Little Ray of Giving, the students were really upset to hear that some children might not recieve Christmas presents this year. They wanted to do something to help. They decided to sell raffle tickets, raffling off the class teddy to Prep B families. The winner would receive Hoppy and Hoppy's adventure book; a beautiful memento from their year in Prep.
In the end, the students raised $87 to buy presents for children who otherwise would not have received any this Christmas. With that money, we were able to purchase 6 gifts to help those in need. When the raffle day came, the students were all really happy for Naomi who won the teddy, but also proud to know that they had done something to make a positive difference in the lives of children they don't even know.
