Higher School Certificate Examinations Conclude

Congratulations to our HSC students on the completion of the 2018 Higher School Certificate. The final exams in this year’s schedule were conducted last Friday November 9.  Our Year 12 students applied themselves wholeheartedly and are to be commended for their effort. Many thanks to parents who supported their children and helped them through this final stage of the HSC journey. I also wish to thank our HSC Examinations Presiding Officer, Mrs Kate Norris and all the supervisors for the smooth running of the examinations.

HSC results will be delivered via email and text message from 6.00am on Thursday 13th December and students will be able to access results by logging into their Student Online account. ATAR results will be available on Friday 14th December. I look forward to seeing the Year 12 students in a more relaxed context at the Final Mass and Graduation Ceremony next week.

Year 12 HSC Class of 2019

As our Year 12 students of the Class 2018 prepare to leave school and set out on a new life in the big wide world, a new batch of students is preparing to join the ranks of ‘seniors’ next year. When students enter their senior years, they are expected to start taking responsibility for their learning. For many students this could be the realisation that they need to do schoolwork for their own sake and they start to work for themselves. Other students come to realise that in order to cope with the increased workload, they need to work more efficiently at home and in the classroom. Small changes like where students sit in a class can make a big difference to how much work is actually completed. I encourage students commencing their final year to be reflective on what works best for them and how they will approach their studies. I encourage them to consider, what they do well, and what do they need to work on changing?  Perhaps identify and choose the top five areas on which to work and focus on, and write these on cards, place them somewhere at home where they can be seen regularly as a reminder. Students are encouraged to develop good, regular study habits early as the research informs us that good habits take at least a month to change and for new ones to develop. I wish the HSC Class of 2019 a successful, happy and memorable final year of secondary schooling.

Transition Program 2018 – Orientation Day!

The final stage of our successful Transition Program with the Catholic and Public feeder schools for 2018 was held on Friday, November 16 with an Orientation Day. Approximately 120 students from schools across Griffith and the surrounding area enjoyed a day together in Homeroom Groups where they were exposed to diverse and innovative learning experiences in Key Learning Areas such as Music, Food Technology, Visual Arts, PDHPE, Science, HSIE and English. The Year 6 students were given a taste of what to expect from a typical day of learning and social experiences at Marian Catholic College.

I wish to thank all the teaching staff who were involved with the facilitation of Key Learning Area lessons for the Orientation Day, and thanks to the Homeroom Teachers, and Peer Support Teachers and Student Leaders for caring to the needs of all the Year 6 Students on the day. Special thanks to Miss Brittany Crofts, Ms Rose Turenen, the Year 6 teachers and support staff from St Mary’s and St Pat’s, and the MCC teachers and teacher assistants for their contributions and assistance with every stage of the Transition Program this year. The program for 2018 was yet again another successful and delightful experience for all involved.

Wishing you all the best for a happy and safe weekend.
