Pastoral Care Worker News

I have just begun a lunch time program today with the Year 7 girls, called ‘Superchicks.’ It is a fun program which promotes friendship, self-esteem and relationships.
We begin by thinking about our Personalities and who we are as a person. In the next few weeks we will also talk about our dreams and goals for our life and the hidden potential we all have, waiting to come out. We then explore where our passion is and I explain to the girls that our Personalities plus our Potential and Passion (goals) will lead us to our PURPOSE. This helps the girls to begin thinking about their future and what they want to do with their life.
We also discuss how to deal with relationship issues in a positive way and speak about problem solving in this area. We have a different craft every week and sip on Milo and the girls have a lot of fun, but are learning at the same time.
Last week Jackie (OSHC) Belinda (a Mum) and I started a sewing group on Friday lunchtimes and the children are half way through making either a teddy bear or a cushion. We had around 25 children attend this session. Lunch - time programs are a great way to build friendships as well as learn a new skill and the children have a lot of fun with each other.
I am still visiting classrooms and helping out where needed, as this also helps me connect with the children. There is a small group of girls that I am working with and we are creating a ‘Friendship Book’ to help build resiliency and positive relationships.
My two days here (Tuesday and Friday) are very busy but I am loving it. Remember each FRIDAY at 2.30pm we have a Parent Afternoon Tea in Penney Unit , so come and join us and put your feet up at the end of the week. Everyone is most welcome.
Every Blessing,
Cherie Love
