Year 1 News

On Wednesday the 23rd of November the Year One cohort were lucky enough to go on an excursion to DreamCity in South Wharf. As a part of our Local Community unit, the students explored a range of local community roles and responsibilities such as firefighting, surgery, scientific coding, virtual reality and podcasting. The Year 1 students thoroughly enjoyed their time exploring new skills and left feeling inspired and excited to continue their learning about different important roles that people choose to take in our community.

Leadership Speeches and a Special Guest in Year 5

The Year 5 students delivered their leadership speeches this week to the Year 4 & Year 5 students, teachers, Mrs Dell and Mrs McLeod.

The children in Year 5 picked a leadership role they were interested in and drafted, edited and practised presenting their speeches on the microphone. There was a mixture of nerves and excitement leading up to the big day! We are extremely proud of all of the students for their engaging, persuasive and confident speeches. The audience members were all respectful and encouraging of their peers and voted after listening to all of the candidates. The students that indicated that they were interested in a school captain or vice-captain position will be shortlisted this week for interviews that will take place on Monday, 5th December.

Visitor to Year 5

A visitor arrived on Thursday, 1st December. He was spotted sitting on a shelf in 5B and promptly was named Timothy. We are wondering where he will turn up next in Year 5...

STEAM News

Year 6 students are putting together the final touches to their cardboard arcade games. Next Wednesday in the hall, the rest of the students from Foundation to Year 5 will be invited to come in and play the games.

Year 3 students have been looking at different sources of heat. This week they took outside UV beads and watched how the sun’s UV rays changed the colours on the beads. They covered the beads in sunscreen and observed how the beads only slightly changed colour.

The Year 1 students have been discussing light and sound this term and they made shadow puppets. We talked about how moving an object closer to and away from a light source changes the size of a shadow. They are enjoying sharing their shadow puppet performances with the rest of their peers.
