Inquiry Centre

Curriculum
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Students have been singing and practising their songs for the upcoming Christmas Concert. Lots of excitement and enthusiasm in the air.
In Writing this week students have been completing Autobiographies. They brainstormed and followed the writing process to complete a piece of work highlighting key information about themselves.
What makes a good reader? After a year of fabulous reading students reflected on what makes a good reader. Their responses were fantastic! Someone who uses expression and doesn’t skip words. A good reader uses sounds to work out new words. They also ask questions and use clues from the text to answer questions. We have also been learning to respond to text from other cultures. It was wonderful to see students make insightful text to self and text to text connections.
We continued to use different strategies to solve problems that involve multiplication and division in Maths sessions this week. Different strategies work for different students. Some like to use hands-on materials such as counters or unifix blocks while others draw pictures or arrays to help them find the answers.
In Science we have been learning all about weather including how thunderstorms happen, temperature and what are the chances of rain or sunshine. Students have been working hard on their own weather report making their own forecast and recommending what to wear for different conditions.
We’re looking forward to a busy and exciting last couple of weeks!
See you at the Christmas concert on Tuesday. Fingers crossed the rain stays away!
Enjoy your week!
