Allergy Alert
In our school, we have several students with allergies to various food products. Most people have heard about peanut allergies, but lots of other foods can cause allergic reactions too. The most common foods people are allergic to are kiwi fruit, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, fish, shellfish, soy, lupin and sesame seed. It is very important that our students with severe allergies do not come into contact with these foods. Classes that require additional food safety will display a sign detailing which food should be avoided in that area.
Sometimes an allergic reaction can make a person so sick that they need emergency medicine quickly and then they need to go to the hospital by ambulance. This is called anaphylaxis. To avoid any reaction happening, we strongly encourage that foods containing the above allergens are not to be brought into the class. Additional guidelines to assist in reducing the risk of anaphylaxis include:
Students should wash their hands before and after eating
Students should never share or swap food
