Sir Gustav Nossal Statue
A Community Arts Project
It's the end of a landmark year at Nossal High School, a year in which we committed as a community to officially recognising a former 'Australian of the Year', a 'Living Australian Legend', an internationally recognised innovative leader in World Health, an inspirational humanitarian and more importantly to us, our school's namesake, Sir Gustav Nossal AC, CBE, FRS, FAA.
We are all familiar with Sir Gus's drive and determination from a young age to not only be the best person he could be in his field of endeavour, but also to be inspiring, and to challenge others to achieve their personal best too. We always welcome the opportunity to have Sir Gus attend the school and special events as he did recently when he was a guest at the 2022 Valedictory Dinner and then two weeks later at the school's Annual Speech Night.
So now is the time for the Nossal High School community to enact to its motto and 'embrace the challenge'. School Council has approved the order for the life sized, seated bronze statue to be commissioned. The process has begun with the creative team at world-renowned sculptors, Gillie and Marc transforming a series of portrait photographs into the clay model shown, that will become a vital part of the process.
Thank you to the many people who have made a contribution to our 'Sir Gustav Nossal Statue Fund'. Please remember, this project is being funded entirely from money received from the community, and no money received by the school from Government sources specifically destined to support the education of our students, is being diverted into the project.
At the end of the 2022 school year, we are pleased to announce that we have now achieved approximately 55% of our fundraising goal and look forward to making some more exciting sponsorship announcements in the new year.
Sir Gustav Nossal is an eminent Australian who is extremely proud to be associated with State Education especially through our school. This is the community's opportunity to honour the legend.
If you, your family or a business you know of haven't already done so, please make your contribution today using the QR code shown below. All donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.
