Advent

Education in Faith

Advent is a time of waiting.

Think of a time when you had to wait for something.

Maybe it was for your birthday.

Maybe it was for a special trip with your family.

How did you feel during these times of waiting?

Why was it hard to wait? What did you do while you waited?

Before Jesus was born, the Jewish people had been waiting a long time for God to

 keep his promise.

God made a promise to the Jewish people that He would send a saviour, His Son.

What do you think they did while they waited?

They got ready for His arrival, they became more and more excited!

Even when they weren't sure when He might arrive, they kept praying and preparing.

Advent is our time of waiting and preparing.

During Advent, we get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Every year, Christians get ready to celebrate Christmas. The word Advent means “coming.” Advent is the four weeks before Christmas when we prepare for Christ’s coming.

During Advent, we pray to Jesus to fill our hearts with his love.

It’s a time when we try to pray more, and to think about others.

Loving God, at this special time of the year, when we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we thank God for the year that we have had, for the learning, fun and friendship we have experienced in our school community.

Help us to be grateful for all that we have and to look for opportunities to give and to be kind to others, so that we can share the love of Jesus with those around us and with our world.

Have a happy and blessed Christmas!
