Enrichment News

In the Primary school, some students have been working on specific elements of the curriculum.  Some students from 5 Navy worked on mathematical investigations, solving complex word problems where part of the information is missing, while some year 6 Navy students began to work on their competition entry for the "My Place" Competition.  Year 1 students looked at different strategies through a number talk to solve addition problems using single digit numbers or double-digit numbers. This week, some Year 3 students will investigate rules through a Civics and Citizenship problem.  They will investigate the cobra effect.

National History Challenge

Isobel Denby from Year 5 Navy has entered a piece into the National History Challenge for 2021.  Given her love and passion for history this extension opportunity was a natural for Isobel to compete in as it provided her with the opportunity to delve deeply into this area of the curriculum using her skills and knowledge in a creative manner.

Isobel took the theme of this year’s competition SIGNIFICANCE: History Matters and explored a myriad of events that have made up Tasmanian history before settlement until now.  She initially put together a survey asking the participants what they believed was an integral moment in Tasmanian history that resonated with them.

At the conclusion of this survey Isobel used the top two responses and interviewed a number of people about their thoughts, the effect it had on them personally and what we have learnt as a community. A big thank you to Mr Gary Hoggard who worked closely with Isobel in refining her presentation.  We wish her well with her entry.
