Around the Classrooms

Prep
The Prep children are enjoying putting their writing skills to different uses - now learning to review dramatic productions. Together they viewed a filmed play and narration of Tiddalik and using a three star system were asked to rate the play providing reasoning. The children are learning that feedback is useful, and that we can always work to find a positive within someone else's work.
Year 2
Our class welcomes Miss Chelsea Beattie, a fourth year Bachelor of Education student. Miss Beattie will be working with us most of this term and some of next term.
This week we have focussed on enhancing our love of literature through participating in many book week activities. We have written questions we would like to ask our favourite author, discussed the most interesting place we have read a book and undertaken some book reviews, just to name a few. Of course, we are very excited for Friday's parade.
Year 3
The Year 3 students are getting into the Arts Festival mood a little early with an excursion to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. The girls explored the “This Too Shall Pass” exhibit and learned that the colours, medium and shading of the painting help tell the story of the artwork.
Veronica, a fantastic TMAG educator, helped us analyse a painting and figure out the story or message the artist was trying to tell. Thanks to Mrs Burrill for going on this adventure with us.
Year 8 English
In Year 8 English, students have been reading the verse novel Sister Heart by Indigenous author Sally Morgan. The novel is written from the perspective of ‘Annie’ a girl who is taken away from her family to be assimilated into white culture. Despite the serious nature of the themes that are explored, Sally Morgan creates some beautiful imagery through her use of descriptive and figurative language.
Students were tasked with responding to a passage from the novel that resonated with them in a creative way. Hand drawn illustrations, digital paintings, and 3D models were just some of the mediums used to represent their chosen passage.
