The Butterfly Foundation - Body Image

Yesterday all Year 5 and 6 students came together to watch a Zoom presentation by Clare Hennessy on behalf of The Butterfly Foundation.

The workshop saw students explore the ideas around positive body image as well as unpacked how negative self talk, or negative influences, can impact on social and emotional development. Clare spoke to the girls about spreading a positive message about body image and celebrating what their body can do.  She also encouraged the girls to champion role models that are close by, such as family and friends, rather than looking for social media influencers and others to promote what an ideal body looks like.

Clare finished off the session by asking the following of the Year 5 and 6 students:

  • Celebrate what bodies do
  • Embrace differences
  • Use the power of words for good

The girls enjoyed the time spent interacting with Clare over Zoom and came away from it thinking about what they are grateful for who they are; inside and out.  A special thanks to Mrs Linda Howe who gave up her time to be present and to Mr Gary Hoggard for his amazing technical skills.
