We pay our respects to elder's past, present and emerging and extend that respect to any and all Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. We value the ongoing contribution to the cultural heritage that the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people provide to our school as well as the city of Manningham. We recognise that this land was never ceded and there is no treaty, and we commit to efforts towards reconciliation as a school community. We at Doncaster Secondary College are inclusive of individuals from all backgrounds including the LGBTQIA+, culturally and linguistically diverse as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

7-DAY SNAP LOCKDOWN

Following advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, all Victorian schools will move to a period of remote and flexible learning from Friday 6th August, with an anticipated return to onsite learning on Friday 13th August.

Given that this announcement was made at 4.15pm yesterday, some students may not have all their required materials for remote learning.  If this is the case, students can collect items from their lockers and their musical instruments on Monday until midday.  Entrance to the school is restricted so students must report to the General Office on Church Rd.

I am acutely aware that these are challenging times for many people for a range of reasons.  Today (Friday) is an opportunity for students and teachers to connect via a video call  during their timetabled classes and to prepare for next week’s remote learning.  If there are any problems accessing classes through Microsoft Teams, students can follow the Compass lesson plan.  To support our students and staff, lessons next week will be reduced from 75 minutes to 60 minutes in order to reduce screen time, increase movement and transition effectively to the next class.  As always, if something isn’t working for your student or your family, please reach out to us.

For our senior students, the GAT, which was scheduled next Thursday 12th August, has been postponed and a new date will be announced shortly.  Any SACs scheduled for next week may still run so please keep in contact with your teacher and they will let you know.  If you require support, please arrange a meeting with your teacher through MS Team.  Ty Dennis has provided a range of DET resources to support our senior students and these are provided in the Senior News section of this newsletter.

Students who are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made due to parents being permitted workers can email the college (doncaster.sc@education.vic.gov.au) to make an application to attend on site. If your child is vulnerable or has a disability and your family is experiencing severe stress, you may also apply for your child to attend the College on site.  Please note that our teachers are not on site.  All students who attend learn remotely from the College using their device.

As Principal, I am confident that we as a school community have this lockdown covered, and working together we will once again get through it.  I encourage you all to keep in touch with family and friends via digital devices and telephone. Please take care of yourself and others.
