From the Principal

There seems to be one constant lately: change.

HSC students have had a significant change to the way they will finish school, with the Premier's announcement that Year 12 will not return this term for face-to-face lessons. It is a disappointment to all of us that they cannot finish their schooling in the traditional way. Their teachers are keen to support them in any way they can, and to use their time well in examination preparation. Please know that we are exploring options to ensure that Year 12 have some sort of send-off, however limited it may be.

Learning from home is challenging, and I thank everyone involved: students, teachers, support staff, and parents and carers. We appreciate that everyone's circumstances are different, and I am grateful to families for the work they are doing in supporting their children's education while performing their own jobs. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's Wellbeing Day, where students can spend time in activities of their choice. Check Compass for the details of activities.

Academic progress is important, but wellbeing even more so. Should you need advice or support, there is a list of organisations that can help in this newsletter. Don't hesitate to reach out; we are living in unusual times and just talking to someone can lift our spirits.

Last week we were all very busy cheering our Killara High School Olympian: beach volleyballer Mariafe Artacho del Solar. Mariafe and her partner Taliqua Clancy won the silver medal in Tokyo, placing Australia on this particular medal podium for the first time in 21 years. Mariafe was a star volleyballer from early days, being captain of the NSW U15 Volleyball team as a Year 7 student. Congratulations Mariafe.

Closer to home, Year 8 student Keira C has won $1000 for the school in the Turramurra Community Bank Art in Lockdown competition. Keira chose Killara High School as the recipient of the donation from the bank. Thank you, Keira! Another amazing artist was Year 7 student Sofia U who was runner up in the same competition. Well done to both the girls.

More exciting student achievements, Keeva O, Year 8, has been selected in the NSW Public Schools Digital Drama Ensemble. Congratulations Keeva, and we look forward to viewing your performance project.
