From the Director of Boarding

Mr Luke Morrissey

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I pray that you are all happy and healthy at this difficult time. I cannot believe that when we decided to get boys home quickly at the end of Term 2, to avoid the developing COVID situation, that we would find ourselves not returning for Term 3. The current situation is concerning for all involved with the goalposts changing every day. I would like to thank the entire boarding community for your continued support and understanding as we navigate this pandemic together. I would particularly like to thank your sons for the positive way in which they have approached their online learning. The situation is a wonderful lesson in resilience and your sons are succeeding in meeting the challenge.

Online Meetings

A massive thank you to all the boys for engaging with our online boarding meetings. It has been great to connect with the boys, and more importantly to connect the boys to each other. We have introduced online sessions with our vertical teams, in addition to our regular year group catch-ups, and the response has been outstanding. This has allowed boys across all-year groups to connect. It has been very positive being a part of these online chats.

NSW Schoolboys Rugby Championships

At the conclusion of Term 2, the NSW Schoolboy Rugby Championships were held in Sydney. St Gregory’s was represented by 16 students and 3 staff in the competition. Everyone involved was a wonderful ambassador for the College.

A huge congratulations to Joshua Vaalotu (Year 10) who was named in the NSW U/16 1st team to compete at the Australian Rugby Championships. These championships have been postponed at this point. Well done Joshua!

Best Wishes

On behalf of the entire boarding community, I would like to pass on my best wishes to Sam Corkhill. Sam has undergone significant surgery to fix an issue he had with his head, skull, and spine. The surgery was successful, and Sam is currently recovering in the Children’s Hospital at Randwick. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sam and the entire Corkhill family at this time. Get well soon Sam.

Obviously without students onsite there is not a lot to report on from a boarding perspective. We miss having the Houses full and the boys enjoying themselves. Like all of you I hope and pray that we can get boys back onsite as quickly as possible, and into the classroom. If I could highlight the fantastic way that our Year 12 students are dealing with the current situation. They have been dealt the harshest of situations concerning their final term of school and have taken it in their stride like the mature group of young men that they are. Please be assured it is our priority to get all students, particularly Year 12, back on site as soon as it is safe to do.

Kind regards,
