From the Director of Mission

Mrs Cathie Clarke

It might seem that there could not be much happening in the world of Mission in our remote learning community, but as I pen this newsletter, it appears to be quite the opposite. Despite not being able to gather in person, we have been able to share our faith and connect in many creative ways.

Our reflections each morning have used Scripture, song, paintings, photos, videos and prayer. We have heard voice messages from our College Captain, Year 12 students and Year 11 students. Via social media and YouTube, we have connected with Mr MacMaster and Mr Weekes and have been able to witness many of the activities which have continued in the St Greg’s community.

We have acknowledged and celebrated important events – the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, NAIDOC Week, the Feast of the Assumption.

This week we celebrate Science week, an opportunity to explore the wonders and contributions of science.

In our Marist charism, love of work is significant and all of our staff and students and parents who have engaged in online learning are living this characteristic.

Taking time to stop and think is important, particularly in these times when everyday challenges can severely impact our well-being. Our reflections have explored important themes – gratitude, forgiveness, praise, fear and hope.

Research suggests that religious people report being happier and more satisfied with their lives. (Diener 2016) People who engage in religious activities report lower levels of depression and higher levels of well-being, life satisfaction and positive feelings, such as a sense of belonging and community. All these things promote well-being, the most important consideration for our community at this time.

As we continue in faith and hope, we pray:

Lord, we know that you are with us in all situations, the good and the bad. We know that you are present in our hearts, in the Words of God in Scripture, and in each other. We pray in gratitude for the gift of each other and for our College community of St Gregory’s.

Enjoy the long weekend.
