A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A Warm Welcome to our Weeden Heights Community

Well, it is remote and flexible learning for another 2 weeks!  It is terrific that we can all be consistent and maintain routines to keep our children settled.  Routines and reassurance are vital during anxious times and students are now hearing more about the virus and how it may affect them.  As adults, we need to be positive and forward thinking with optimism ....even when we are not quite there ourselves.  Our children look towards us for guidance and it will shape their reactions.  You are all doing an incredible job so we need to work with you for a little longer now.  Stay strong everyone, we have really got this!

A Massive Thank you!

I would like to thank Kent and Michelle Phillips for donating a new sign for our friendship tree after reading that it had been stolen in the last newsletter.  Thank you so much on behalf of the whole school!  It will look terrific remounted back in the same location with our beautiful new friendship tree.

Our school sign has been spotted in a nearby park, bent and dirty.  With that damage I don’t believe we would be able to get it back up on the wall.  It would not even fit into my car to bring back so I can see why the vandals did not get very far.  The Moulton family also spotted it while out on a walk.  It is sad but might be time for a new sign.

Father’s Day Stall

On the weekend, it will be another Father’s Day celebrated while in lock down.     Unfortunately our PFA are unable to organise their annual stall this year due to lock down restrictions but that does not mean we cannot celebrate all of our amazing dads, uncles and grandfathers!  I would like to thank all of the fabulous males who are our dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles and community members that continue to contribute to our school.  Without the efforts of these father figures we would not have some of the fabulous things that we do at Weeden Heights PS.   Thank-you!

We really hope that all of our families spend some quality time together to celebrate on the weekend. Ps….don’t forget to send the photos to your classroom teachers of the special activity.   Happy Father’s Day!

Annual Parent Survey

Thank you to the parents who have already participated in the annual DET parent survey.  The last day to complete the survey is Friday 3 September. All families were sent a survey link via an email and I always offer the survey to all of the Weeden Heights PS families as we value your opinion and thoughts. If you have a moment, we would greatly appreciate your input.

Naplan Results 2021

The Naplan results for the state were released on Tuesday 31 August.  Parents will receive results soon.  We will scan and email the results to you and then we can provide you with the original reports when you return to school next term.

The Minister was very impressed with the results across the state and would like to share the efforts of our system, both student and teacher achievement, during one of the most challenging years with all of us.  Please click on the document below for the state's achievements:

Weeden Heights students performed incredibly well, out performing many previous cohorts particularly in reading and especially in spelling.   As always, we have strong results in Mathematics.  I'm so happy with our students and want to congratulate you all as well because we have all had a part to play in this success.  Outstanding work team!

Capital Works

Last week I met with Tectra, our architects, who came on site to inspect the conditions of our buildings and the services.  They were stunned (in not a good way!) by our various roof lines and understood why we have had massive leaking issues.  I believe our school is going to present many architectural challenges to fix these issues. It is going to be very interesting to see what they come up with to solve these issues.  Stay tuned!

Workforce Planning

Preparations for 2022 are well underway.  I continue to need your support so that the leadership team and I can make the best decisions for the school.

If you intend leaving Weeden Heights and your children will be starting at another school next year, can you please let me know, in writing, so that we can make the necessary adjustments to our calculations. Also if you have not yet enrolled at school or one of your neighbours has not yet enrolled, then please do so asap as this does affect grades.

Please do not leave it to the last minute to indicate your intentions as it does have a profound effect on the proposed budget.  Having accurate student enrolments is critical in establishing a sound budget.

End of Term 3

The last day of term 3 is Friday 17 September and officially school will finish at 2.30pm.  We  provide updates when the information comes to hand about a return to onsite learning in term 4.  We have no news yet on what this will look like yet.

Please take care, stay safe and hopefully we can all be together again soon.

Until next time……

Kylie Campbell
