Southern Stars

Southern Stars Update

Due to the current COVID restrictions, the Southern Stars Management Team has met to discuss a way forward for Southern Stars 2021 and have made the difficult decision to postpone the 2021 show, to 26 and 27 August 2022.

They have shared the following message with the community:

We understand that this news will be very disappointing for our young Southern Stars, our teachers, our schools, our families, and our wider community. Our hearts go out to all of our young performers who have been so eager to take part in Southern Stars and who have been rehearsing throughout this year for what was going to be another spectacular show! We thank all of you, and your hard working and committed teachers, who have put in so much time already.

However, all is not lost! We are fully committed to 2022, and with three years of creative input and pent up energy and enthusiasm from our performers, the transition of this year’s show to 2022 makes sense, and we are sure that our show next year is going to be something truly wonderful.

We know that there will be questions over the coming weeks from students, parents and carers and the community. Be patient and respectful with us, as we work through how elements of this year’s show will transfer over to next year.

Also, please keep in mind that Southern Stars is a self-funding program, meaning that the show needs to be financially self-sustaining to continue. The Southern Stars program is largely run by volunteers, with just one paid position funded by sponsors, participation fees and ticket sales.

Funds associated with the 2021 production (rehearsals venues, teacher relief, etc.,) have already been allocated and spent, and Southern Stars will not be in a financial position to provide refunds for participation fees/t-shirts, and costumes. T-shirts and costumes will be transferable to the 2022 show. We will be working with schools to manage the transition to next year’s show.

On the bright side, we will be seeking ways to include our Southern Stars Performing Company members in Year 12 this year, and last year, who missed out of their final Southern Stars performance opportunity. We are also considering other performance opportunities in early 2022 that will not only allow items and ensembles to entertain other audiences, but will also contribute to the awareness and marketing of Southern Stars in August 2022.

We do intend to come back bigger and brighter than ever, and we look forward to our wonderful community coming out in great support of our show in 2022. We will continue to work hard behind the scenes to ensure that our talented Stars who love and live for performing arts experiences, have something to look forward to and to keep their spirits high, through these challenging times.

Stay safe, stay healthy and most of all please stay optimistic. We can’t wait to put on an amazing show in 2022.

Here, at Windang Public School we are working out the logistics of moving costumes to next year and all the costs associated with the show. We will be in touch soon in terms of refunds.
